The Prosperity Tip 1 - Setting targets not goals

From now on we will feature a really quick prosperity tip as well as a main article, so even if you are too busy for the rest, you can take this and put it into action :o)

This week it is about redefining your goals. Many of us set the same goal year after year. The article below is about the subject of change. One of the commonest problems I hear with wealth creation is that as soon as people write down a financial figure, they start sweating and thinking it is impossible - and procrastination sets in. I have played for ages with moving goals around to motivate people - too low is too boring and too high is to scary but those parameters change depending on how positive the client is feeling.

Here's my new approach ...

You may need a few more circles, but this is a simple version for ease.

Now, decide what the minimum amount that would feel good would be - maybe you are just starting out and would like to earn £10k. Mark the outer circle with "£10k". Now which amount is really exciting but feels just a bit too high? Mark the inner circle with that amount. Now, decide how many increments you would like to have on your target and mark those on the other circles. Without going daft have as many circles as you like and feel good to you.

Remember that in archery, you get some points as long as you hit the target. Once you are on the target with your income you will start to experience a feeling of success. The whole thing becomes more of a game and you actually get to start overdelivering by working your way through the target. My clients tell me it is more motivating. lighter and more enjoyable than chasing a set financial figure.

Try it with dress sizes, weight, number of clients ... the possibilities are endless.
